Girl Develop It

In January I was looking around for volunteer opportunities. Through my research, ok looking at Meetup, I found a teaching assistant training for Girl Develop It. I signed up, did the training. At the training I signed up to TA the JavaScript 101- Intro to Javascript Bootcamp in February.

Girl Develop It is a nonprofit organization that exists to provide affordable and judgment-free opportunities for women interested in learning web and software development. Through in-person classes and community support, Girl Develop It helps women of diverse backgrounds achieve their technology goals and build confidence in their careers and their every day lives.

The class was on February 27 from 10am - 4pm. Claire Bendersky taught the class and there were about 20 students. I had a blast being able to support the teacher, answer questions and work with students through the exercises.IMG_20160227_112800I loved it so much that I ask the chapter leaders if I could do more. Not long after, GDI(Girl Develop It) had a meeting for their summer series and invited me to the curriculum development. It was an overview meeting of where they were on the curriculum development, what needed to be done and who was going to teach the sessions. They asked me if I would be interested in teaching since Claire had recommended me and my background working at Hackbright. I said yes and I was signed up for the Instructor Training in May.I did my training with Jessie Wu and it was fantastic! GDI of San Francisco has great document that has check list for what needs to happen as well as linked to the all the needed documents - since GDI is a nonprofit and many people do this as a volunteer, I was expecting things to be a little messier, but I was so happily surprised! Great job GDI! - We went through all the documents and I preformed a demo of teaching. I liked it so much that I also did their Coordinating Training which involves being responsible with organizing and coordinating classes.I'm super excited to be teaching:

I'll also be coordinating:
