Update since May

I did it! I was able to leave up the last post. It's funny how something so simple can have such a large emotional charged and by overcoming it, things can start happening. I made it through and now it only gets easier :)Since I posted, I've been busy working towards my goal of working in programingMy first website that I made at Summer Web BootcampThe last week of May, I did a 40 hour HTML5 & CSS3 training at Fresno City College for their Summer Web Bootcamp. The bootcamp covered the basics and explored today's best-practices: emantics, rich snippets & microdata, emmet.io, performance including page speed insights, responsive design, media queries, github, and flex-box. Throughout the week, I learned how to create the first page of my bio website (super exciting!)I am currently enrolled in Udacity's Front-End Web Developer Nanodegree June cohort. This is a 6 - 9 month on-line program that requires 10 hours a week (its flexible and you can get things done on your own time). The program teaches the fundamentals of web work: HTML, CSS & JavaScript. Today I completed my first project:Last week I applied for Hackbright's Software Engineering Fellowship. Hackbright's mission statement is:

"Hackbright Academy is the leading engineering school for women with a mission to increase female representation in tech through education, mentorship and community."

Hackbright is an organization where in 10 weeks they take women from all walks of life and empower them to become software developers. This in-person program is exclusively for women. The reason why I chose to apply to this program is because of their career focused curriculum, their mentoring program (having a mentor who is working in the field) and because it aligns with my personal values of empowering those who have been disenfranchised. I believe that creating a community is one of the first steps of creating change.Very exciting actions!I am looking forward to documenting my experiences throughout this transition.
